Ballroom dancing is divided into two main styles – American and International and each style is divided into fluid and syncopated dances. The main dances are Waltz, Foxtrot, Rumba, Cha Cha, and Swing.
The two styles of ballroom dancing developed at the same time in England and the United States. They are similar in many respects but vary in their overall emphasis. American allows for more lenient rules theatrics, and individual expression, while International emphasizes flawless form and precise execution.
